Everything you need to know about GraviRun - how it works, how it compares, and what's available today versus what's still on the way.

Getting Started

GraviRun is an AI running coach that works through your ChatGPT account. It reads your training data, understands your body's signals, and gives you adaptive coaching - workout advice, pace guidance, race strategy, and plan adjustments - in plain language. No separate app to download; you chat with it the way you'd chat with a knowledgeable running coach.
You talk to GraviRun through ChatGPT. Share your runs, paces, heart-rate data, and how you feel - in plain language or by pasting in data from your watch. GraviRun analyses it the way a coach would: it looks at your training history, spots patterns (cardiac drift, pace drift, recovery gaps), and tells you exactly what to do next. It understands periodization - base, build, peak, taper - and builds each workout to fit where you are in the cycle.
Register with your email and confirm it to create your account. Then sign in, connect GraviRun to your ChatGPT account, and start chatting. Tell it your goals, share your recent training, and it'll build a plan around your life, your injury history, and your watch. That's it. No app to install, no complex setup.
GraviRun works through your ChatGPT account, so you'll need access to ChatGPT. A free ChatGPT account is enough to get started - you don't need a ChatGPT Plus subscription to use GraviRun's core coaching features. If you already have Plus, great; if not, the free tier works fine.

Comparisons

Garmin Coach is a solid free tool - it generates a structured plan and adapts based on whether you completed workouts. But it can't have a conversation with you. It won't ask why you missed Tuesday's session, explain the reasoning behind a workout change, or consider your sleep, stress, and travel schedule. GraviRun gives you a coach you can talk to - one that explains its thinking, adjusts for life events, and looks at your entire running background, not just the current plan block. Garmin Coach tells you what to do; GraviRun tells you why.
Runna is a great app for generating and following structured training plans - you pick a race, it builds the schedule, and you execute. GraviRun is conversational. Instead of a static plan you follow, you get a coach you can ask anything: "I slept 5 hours - should I still do intervals?", "My calf feels tight - what should I swap in?", "Why is my threshold pace different from last month?" Runna optimises the plan; GraviRun optimises the conversation around the plan - and around everything else going on in your life and body.
You can ask ChatGPT for running advice, but it won't know your training history, your watch data, or your specific context unless you manually paste it all in every time - and even then, it won't reliably compute VDOT, track cardiac drift, or reason about periodization the way a purpose-built coach does. GraviRun layers specialised running-coaching intelligence on top of ChatGPT: it knows how to interpret your data, what questions to ask, and how to build a coherent, adaptive plan. It's the difference between asking a smart friend for advice and working with a coach who knows you.
Not entirely - and we won't pretend it does. A great human coach brings intuition, accountability, and a relationship that AI can't replicate. GraviRun is for athletes who want expert-level coaching intelligence without the cost or scheduling friction of a human coach. If you're an elite chasing podiums, a human coach who knows you personally is still the gold standard. For most runners - from beginners to serious age-group competitors - GraviRun covers the vast majority of what you'd get from a coach, at a fraction of the cost, available 24/7.

Training

All of them - 5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon, and ultra distances. GraviRun builds periodized plans for each: base phase, build phase, peak, and taper, scaled to your target race date and current fitness. You can also use it for general fitness running without a specific race goal.
Once your activities are syncing from Garmin, GraviRun turns them into data-backed running reports - effort, pace, heart rate, cadence, and terrain in context - plus practical pause and recovery insights: where you stopped, how quickly you settled back into rhythm, and what that pattern says about your fatigue. It's written for experienced runners and coaches who already know their numbers and want the story behind them, not a wall of charts.
Absolutely. GraviRun is built to meet you where you are. If you're just starting, it'll focus on building an aerobic base, establishing a consistent routine, and progressing safely - no jargon, no overwhelming workouts. You can ask it anything in plain language, and it'll explain the reasoning behind every recommendation. It's arguably the best way for a beginner to learn the why behind training, not just the what.
Yes. GraviRun speaks the language of serious runners - VDOT estimation, critical velocity (CV), lactate threshold, running economy, and training stress balance (TSB). It can reason about advanced periodization, dual-threshold sessions, and race-pace specificity. For elite and sub-elite athletes, it's a powerful analytical tool - though as noted above, if you're chasing podiums, pairing it with a human coach who knows you personally remains the gold standard.
No, you don't need a Garmin watch to use GraviRun today. You can share your training data manually - paces, distances, heart rate, perceived effort - by typing or pasting it into the chat. That said, GraviRun is built for the Garmin ecosystem, and Garmin Connect sync is Available - you can connect your Garmin account through Garmin's official sign-in flow and your activities sync in automatically. If you do have a Garmin watch, connecting it is the smoothest experience - but any watch, or even no watch, works fine.
Yes. GraviRun can set and interpret heart-rate zones, detect cardiac drift during runs, and use HRV trends to gauge recovery. It understands the difference between Zone 2 aerobic base work, threshold HR, and max-effort intervals - and it'll tell you when your heart-rate data suggests you should back off or push harder. Automatic HRV and sleep data integration is Planned; for now, you can share HR and HRV data manually.
GraviRun builds a race-specific taper based on your race distance, training load, and how you respond to volume reduction. It typically reduces weekly volume by 40–60% over the final 1–3 weeks while maintaining some intensity to keep your legs snappy - the classic "sharpen while you rest" approach. It'll adjust the taper based on your feedback: if you feel flat, it'll add a small tune-up workout; if you feel heavy, it'll trim more. The taper is personalised, not a generic template.
GraviRun watches for the classic signs - elevated resting heart rate, declining HRV, stagnant or worsening pace at the same effort, persistent fatigue, and training stress balance (TSB) running too negative. When it detects these patterns, it'll proactively suggest backing off: reducing volume, swapping hard sessions for easy aerobic work, or inserting a recovery week. It's not a medical device - if you're experiencing serious symptoms, see a sports physician - but it's a strong early-warning system for the kind of overtraining that creeps up on dedicated runners.

Practical

Yes - and that's the whole point. Tell GraviRun what changed: "I'm traveling all week," "I only have 30 minutes today," "My calf is tight," "I want to race a 10K in 4 weeks instead of 8." It'll rebuild the plan around your new reality while keeping you on track for your goal. You're always in control; GraviRun does the recomputing so you don't have to.
Anything a running coach would answer. Race strategy and pacing plans, workout explanations, injury-aware adjustments, pace and HR zone guidance, tapering, race-day nutrition, shoe choice, strength training complements, recovery strategies, mental race prep - and the reasoning behind all of it. If you can ask a coach, you can ask GraviRun.
Yes - you can share your training history by pasting in data from Garmin Connect, Strava, or a spreadsheet, and GraviRun will analyse it and factor your full history into its coaching. Or connect your Garmin account and your activities sync in automatically through GraviRun's existing integration - that's the Available path and the seamless one. Either way, GraviRun only needs a few weeks of recent data to start giving useful advice.
Not yet. There's no direct TrainingPeaks integration today. You can manually share TrainingPeaks data (workouts, TSS, CTL/ATL) with GraviRun by pasting it into the chat, and it'll reason about it intelligently. A direct TrainingPeaks integration isn't on the immediate roadmap, but if there's enough demand from current users, we'll prioritise it. Let us know if you'd use it.
That's fine. Not everyone wants a 16-week block with prescribed workouts. You can use GraviRun as an on-demand advisor: ask it what to do today, whether to push or back off, what pace to run, how to approach a race - without committing to a formal plan. It'll give you guidance based on your recent training and goals, and you take it from there. Use it however fits your style.

Data & Privacy

We take privacy seriously. We never ask for or store your Garmin password. When you connect Garmin, it uses Garmin's official OAuth flow - you authorise access, and you can revoke it at any time. Your training data is used to coach you, not sold or shared with third parties. You can request deletion of your data at any time. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
Strava integration is Planned. We're exploring both manual import and limited-scope API options to let you pull in runs and routes from Strava. Until the direct integration lands, you can manually share Strava activity data with GraviRun by pasting it into the chat. We'll announce when Strava sync goes live.
GraviRun is a coaching tool, not a medical device or a substitute for professional medical advice. It can occasionally be wrong - all AI can. That's why it always explains its reasoning, so you can judge for yourself. If something doesn't feel right - whether it's a workout suggestion or a pain interpretation - trust your body and consult a qualified professional. For injury or health concerns, see a sports physician or physical therapist. GraviRun is here to help you train smarter, not to override your own judgement or your doctor's.
